Making its first trip back to the tournament after becoming the 2005 National Champions with a
record of 16-13 is Hostos Community College, N.Y. The Caimans earned their berth in this year's
championship tournament by defeating Suffolk County Community College-Selden N.Y. 56-53 in the
Region XV Championship. Coach Roy Beekman said his team had been through its ups and downs this
year, but persevered to make it to the national tournament.
Team leaders for the Caimans are: Silvio Marfe, a sophomore guard, who was named this year's CUNYAC Men's
Basketball Player of the Year and who averages 19 points and 11 rebounds per game; guard Nick Lopez,
who was named MVP of the 2008 CUNYAC Men’s Basketball Championship; guard Steven Marfe who averages
12 points and 8 rebounds per game; and guard Dayshawn Long who averages 8 points and 7 assists per game.
Coach Beekman said the Caimans are coming to the tournament to "play hard and have good defense."
