Defeating the first-ranked team in Division III, SUNY Cobleskill, N.Y., makes its way to the national
tournament with a record for 25-6. The team is making its first appearance in the tournament since 2005.
The Tigers earned their berth in the national tournament by defeating Hudson Valley Community College,
the first-ranked team in Division III, in the Region III semi-finals 86-79, and then defeated sixth-ranked
Herkimer County Community College in the championships 77-75. Cobleskill is ranked in the top
five in the nation in team defense and is entering the tournament with four players selected to
the All-Region III team.
This year's team is led by Darryl Burns Jr., a 6'1" senior guard, who was selected as MVP for the Region
III tournament. Other players include: Stanley Francois, a 6'2" senior forward who is a two-time selection for
the All-Region III team and a two-time selection for the All-Mountain Valley Conference III team; Anthony Armstead,
a 6'5" senior forward for the Tigers, who was selected for the All-Region III team and the All-Mountain Valley
Conference III team; and Harley Fuller, a 6'1" senior guard, who was selected for the All-Region III team and
was a two-time selection for the All-Mountain Valley Conference III team. Head Coach Kevin McCarthy describes
this year’s team: "We play very hard, very smart, and we play together. What we may lack in natural ability
we make up for in intensity. This is a team that in the regional tournament found a way to win against
overwhelming odds."
