Game 5 - 1pmvs. Central Lakes College, Minn. (60)
Montgomery's Brandon Simms starts off the first half of the second day at the NJCAA Division III Men's Basketball tournament with a bang, scoring the first seven points of the game. Montgomery controlled the lead until about 13:40 in the game when the Raiders's George Washington nailed a three-pointer to give them the lead. The two teams continues to rally with both making small errors that held them back from sweeping the lead from the other. With 6:11 left in the first half, Montgomery was able to get out of their funk and pull ahead with a 24-19 lead. The Gryphons continued to build their lead and finish up at halftime, 34-20.
Both teams started the second half with the same intensity on defense that they had finishing the first half. Unlike Montgomery, Central Lakes came back into the game and had trouble controlling the ball, giving up many of their opportunities to score. This set the Raiders back, but they soon started to make a comeback when Kody Braddix slammed down two three-point baskets. This newfound intensity was immediately interrupted when the Gryphons coach called a timeout. Both teams showed a fierce level of competition, which created many fouls. In the second half alone, there were 20 free-throw attempts between the two teams. Despite each team's drive to win, it was Montgomery who was able to hold on to the lead throughout the second half and finish the game victorious with a final score of 66-55. Lead scorers for the game were Montgomery's Dave Karlson with 13 points and Central Lakes's Kody Braddix with 24 points.
