Game 10 - 3pmvs. Montgomery College-Germantown, Md. (79)
The second game in the final round of the NJCAA tournament started off with a bang as Montgomery College guard Nick Sefcik found Dave Karlson for an alley-oop to take an early 2-0 lead. Trading baskets, the two teams fought for control of the lead before Montgomery's Tyrone Roach hit a three-pointer that put them up 24-19. From then on Montgomery's aggressive and pesky full-court pressure enabled them to take an 11-point, 39-28 lead at the half.
Springfield came out at the half playing intense defense. Forcing key turnovers and converting on easy baskets, Springfield was able to close in on the lead. They were finally able to take a 49-47 lead off of a steal and a fast break layup by Edgar Martinez. The game cycled between both teams with several lead changes and ties. Five straight points from Mitchell Dudley broke the trend and gave Montgomery a 60-55 lead over Springfield with 10 minutes to go. Once again the game began to stand still as each team traded baskets, neither allowing the other to gain an advantage. With the game winding down, Nick Sefcik hit a tough floater in the lane that gave Montgomery a 75-70 lead. Montgomery closed out the game hitting clutch free throws and forcing Springfield's Robert Hopkins to miss a desperation three-point shot from well beyond the arc as the buzzer sounded, winning the game with a final score of 79-77. Springfield's Edgar Martinez finished with a game high of 24 points, and a game high of 13 rebounds. Montgomery had a balanced attack with five players scoring in double digits. Forward Mitchell Dudley led their attack with 14 points. Montgomery College-Germantown, Md. Stats Halftime Fouls, Rebounds, Assists Three Point Goals |
